ISLAND ENDGAME by Rebecca Hodge

I loved everything about ISLAND ENDGAME, Rebecca Hodge’s latest page-turner.

The writing is beautiful and the suspense palpable from the moment Kenzie Adams steps off the boat onto a remote island for a low-stress job as a camp nurse.

Her plan is simple—spend the summer trying to process the grief and guilt that derailed her nursing career and threaten an important relationship. But nothing feels right on the island from day one, despite the stunning scenery with a snow-capped mountain in the distance.

As she helps a skeleton staff prepare for the campers’ arrival, Kenzie overhears whispered conversations and stumbles on secrets. Then three armed fugitives crash their boat on the shore, take hostages, and issue a directive: discover the treasure rumored to be hidden on the island or die. Despite managing to escape, Kenzie is thrust into a deadly game of survival.

We also experience the story and the beautiful, rugged setting through the perspectives of two other compelling characters: Jon, an IT guy and camp counselor with a long history of summers on the island, and the caretaker’s 9-year-old son, Chris, who runs wild with his dog.

Gradually, we learn the three point-of-view characters are as isolated as the island that brings them together. But Kenzie, Jon, and Chris are also resourceful, compassionate, and determined to keep the rest of the staff safe. I barely paused to breathe as the twists ramped up and these three rose to meet every challenge.

A five-star read all the way.
